Chess Championship TournamentThe NC Scholastic State Championship Chess Tournament was held here, in Charlotte, at the University Hilton on February 24 & 25. Over 700 students from around the state came to compete in this huge event, 26 of whom were Lab chess players. In the K-3 division, we had a team of 13 students, the K-5 division had 9 students, and the K-8 division had 4 students.
And the results are remarkable!
Individual recognition was awarded to Attila Montesano for 13th place in K-3, Jake Baugh for 6th place in K-5, and Christian Mayer for 9th place in K-8. In subcategories, Jake Baugh received 2nd place for players rated U1200 in the K-5 division and Liam Parsons received 2nd place for players rated U800 in the K-5 division. Sportsmanship awards go to Lian Araiza and Tristan Gaddy. Mental Toughness awards go to Alyssa Bryson and Logan Parsons. Congratulations Lab Chess Team! 10/17/2016
First Chess Tournament of the SeasonThe Charlotte Lab School chess team kicked off its second year of competition with a smashing success this weekend at the CMSCA Team Tournament at Olympic High School.
