The Lab School Advisory Program, provided at every grade level, is a daily time devoted to supporting and fostering students' social, emotional, character and academic development. Students are in Advisory Groups of about 10-15 students and your child's advisor becomes your family's primary advocate and liaison with the school. The Advisory program includes a combination of age and developmentally appropriate structured lessons and informal team-building activities. In this family-like atmosphere children participate in the following activities:
Brief meetings to check on your child's academic progress and social-emotional state.
Mindfulness techniques to help your child learn to manage and control his/her emotions.
Conflict resolution techniques to support your child in resolving problems peacefully.
Preparation for parent-student-advisor conferences that your child will lead.
Specific curriculum/lessons focus on topics including:
Individual learning profiles and effective study habits, executive functioning, organization and time management skills.
Peer relationships, including friendship and the issue of bullying.
Decision-making around ethical dilemmas, and in middle school, drugs, alcohol, and sex.
Internet safety, digital citizenship, online etiquette/ethics, and building a positive online presence.
