5/19/22 Update

5/5/22 Update

This week, school administration has been notified of more than one student or staff member who has self-reported COVID-19 diagnosis. The state and health department have removed the requirement for contact tracing. However we are still maintaining a weekly dashboard by campus, available here.

As you may know, there is an uptick in COVID-19 cases locally. Masks are proven to be an effective measure to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and while mask wearing is not currently mandated at Charlotte Lab School, it is certainly welcomed and encouraged.

Participation in extracurricular activities and community events carries a risk for exposure to illness and infectious diseases including but not limited to COVID-19. As a school community, we are pleased to have these offerings, but we also encourage adults to weigh these risks for themselves and/or their children against other factors when making the personal decision to participate beyond the compulsory school day.

During the pandemic, Charlotte Lab School has strived to be transparent about the number of cases reported or tested on our campuses. The Covid dashboard is updated weekly and is available here, along with historical information.

We also want to remind you that we are still running weekly pooled testing and there is still time to opt-in.

4/21/22 Update

For the weekly testing program, Lower was unable to test this week. Upper had no positive pools and Primary had 2.

Reminder On Monday 4/25/22 Lab returns to Mask optional on campus.

3/17/22 Update

We are thrilled to report that our COVID numbers are holding steady. Our main metric is from our Pooled Testing program. For March, we have run 195 pools, with a total of 3 positive pools - a 1.54% positivity rate.

As you know, we went Mask Optional March 7, and we see that 30%-50% of the community continues to wear masks.

Finally, a reminder that the week after Spring Break (April 19-22) all students and staff will be masked.

3/3/2022 Update

An updated Mask Policy was officially approved by Board vote on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022. The new policy will go into effect on Monday, March 7, 2022. The policy can be reviewed HERE.

2/17/2022 Update

We are aware of the changes in the local mask mandates that were announced this week. As a school, we will continue to follow the current Charlotte Lab School mask policy (masks required indoors) for the time being. We believe our minimal community spread has been due in part to the protocols we have had in place since being on campus.

The Covid task force is currently reviewing data and recommendations included in the NC SafeSchools Toolkit. After a review of that information we plan to vote on a mask policy at our next Board meeting on 2/28/2022.
