Vikki-Rose Tunick

Vikki-Rose Tunick co-wrote the charter application for Charlotte Lab School in 2013 and was a founding member of the Board of Directors.  In 2015, the year Charlotte Lab School opened, she stepped down from the board to serve as the founding Assistant Head of School; she later became the Head of Lower School serving grades K-5.  In her current role as the Head of Curriculum & Instruction, she supervises the Heads of School and supports teaching and learning at all three campuses.

Prior to her time at Charlotte Lab School, she was an elementary literacy consultant for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and a Curriculum Coordinator for Union County Public Schools. In this capacity, she supported at-risk schools with curriculum planning, instructional coaching, professional development, and intervention team implementation. Entering her 20th year of education, she has spent the majority of her career working in K-8 Title I schools throughout New York City, Charlotte, and Union County. She has been an elementary and middle school teacher, a bilingual Site Coordinator for Communities in Schools, which is a non-profit organization that focuses on drop-out prevention, and a Reading Interventionist.

Born and raised in a suburb of New York City, Vikki graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York with a B.S. in Elementary Education and Spanish, and received a M.S.Ed. in Literacy from The City College of New York. After moving to Charlotte and while serving as a Principal Intern in Union County, Vikki received her M.Ed. in Educational Leadership at Winthrop University. She is a NC certified Principal, Curriculum Specialist, Reading Specialist and Elementary Education Teacher; she also has a background in Expeditionary Learning Outward Bound and International Baccalaureate practices, as well as extensive training in balanced literacy and the workshop model through Columbia University’s Teachers College Reading and Writing Project.

These days you can find Vikki swimming, going for bike rides, or doing puzzles with her husband Marc and their two children, Avery and Ryder (both Lab students).
