What an incredible year this has been! I am so proud of all that our Lab students and faculty have accomplished and so grateful to everyone who has helped make this third year so successful. Our staff is the most dedicated, talented, and passionate group of people that I have ever had the opportunity to work with and I am thankful for each member of the team and all that he/she brings to our school. I also want to express gratitude to all members of the Lab community. We truly could not have accomplished all that we did without your belief in our vision, faculty, and community. As we enter into summer break, I am looking forward to having time to reflect, plan, and improve for next school year and beyond. Charlotte Lab School is beginning a strategic planning process for the purpose of defining the decisions and actions that will shape and guide the future direction for the school and our growth over the next several years. The planning process will include targeted and prioritized action steps to move the school forward. One of the most important components to making this a successful effort is community input - before the plan is developed. This week, we will be launching a short survey to assist our Board of Directors in gathering the community's thoughts on the current education and culture at Lab. This information will be used by our Strategic Planning Committee as they work to develop a blueprint for progress, growth, and expansion for Charlotte Lab School. We hope that all families will take some time to participate in the survey and lend their voice to the future of Charlotte Lab School. As you know, tomorrow we will hold our Year-End Celebrations: Carnival and Field Day at the Lower School and Lab Olympics at the Middle School. These events are a cherished time for students and staff to be active, have fun, and enjoy non-academic time together. Please remind your child that tomorrow and Wednesday are non-uniform days. Tomorrow, students should wear their advisory's field day colors. Have a wonderful summer break and get rested and ready for year four! See you in the fall! Sincerely, Mary Moss Brown INNOVATION FUND: YOU DID IT! It came down to the wire, and thanks to our amazingly supportive community, we did it! We reached our $275,000 goal. The final accounting is still underway, but there is so much to celebrate! We also want to give a shout out to Ms. Fields' Homeroom class for having the highest participation rate of 87.5%. Her class will win a pizza party on the last day of school. Our overall participation rate is a strong 60%, however, we are still hoping to hit last year's 70%. So if you haven't yet made a donation, please join the 222 Lab families (and 300 donors overall) who are supporting the school. Make a gift today. MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR YEAR-END CELEBRATIONS Year-End Celebrations take place tomorrow and we need your help to make the day a success! This Lab tradition aims to encourage students to continue to nurture their joy of learning, designing, exploring, and creating all summer long. Aside from reading the 1-2 required books, which will be used to support advisory activities early in the year, there are no grades or due dates for this challenge. We're excited for this chance to see what our kids can do and how they can inspire us and each other! Post photos and videos on FB/Instagram/Twitter with #LabSummerChallenge.
