Charlotte Lab School is proud to celebrate an outstanding achievement by our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, who placed first in the Charlotte Chess Center Central Regional Chess Championship following an impressive performance at this year’s tournament on November 8, 2025. Around 160 students met at Trinity Episcopal School to compete in a four-round unrated chess tournament, hosted by the Charlotte Chess Center. Charlotte Lab chess players demonstrated exceptional strategic thinking, focus, and sportsmanship as they competed against talented teams from other schools in Charlotte.
Beyond the wins on the board, this accomplishment reflects the dedication and perseverance of our chess team. Students at Charlotte Lab School begin studying chess in first grade as one of their enrichment blocks. Many students also participate in an after school chess program hosted at Lab, where they practice problem-solving and strategic skills. Regardless of their participation in the chess club, any Charlotte Lab School student is invited to participate on our chess team, and this particular group of students came together with the support of their teachers, coaches, and families to bring home the championship trophy!
We congratulate our students on this remarkable achievement and look forward to seeing them continue to grow.
