At Lab, we define “grandfriends” as grandparents, aunts, uncles, or close family friends who play a significant role in our students' lives. We hold this event to recognize the importance of family and community in our children's lives and educational experience.
Our Grandfriends arrived on a rainy November morning and were quickly greeted by a team of Lab high school student ambassadors who led them inside. They enjoyed breakfast treats and time with our school leaders in The Commons, overlooking the Charlotte City skyline, before visiting classrooms for a creative activity with their young loved-ones.
One of the pillars of the Charlotte Lab School model is a “Student Centered Focus on the Whole Child.” This means that in addition to family- and student- centered events like Grandfriends Day, Lab supports the physical and mental wellness of our students and community by providing innovative experiences and evidence-based curriculum that addresses real-world interactions that students experience in their lives. At Lab, we believe that the best way to support students is through conversations, curriculum, and community. These hands-on, community centered learning experiences encourage advocacy and student engagement.
Grandfriends Day is a new tradition at Lab that we plan to continue for years to come!
