CALENDAR CHANGE: May 1 and May 22 are now Remote Learning Days

Dear Families:

As many of you may be aware, CMS has canceled school on Friday, May 1st due to the impact of staff absences because of the planned rally in Raleigh, NC.

The Kids Over Corporations rally is being led by the NC Association of Educators. In support of educators and the appropriate funding for public education that is so needed in our state, Charlotte Lab School will have a Remote Learning Day on Friday, May 1st. Because of previous closures this winter due to weather, Lab will need to make up one day of instruction. Therefore, Friday, May 22nd will also be a Remote Learning Day (previously a Teacher Work Day).

As a reminder, Remote Learning Days provide students with an opportunity to complete assigned work at-home, asynchronously (there will be no Zoom meetings). Students who are unable to complete remote assignments at home (due to internet, lack of device, or personal/family matters) will have 5 days to complete assigned work (work assigned on Friday May 1st can be turned in until Thursday, May 7th).

Please see the following changes for Friday, May 1 and Friday, May 22:

Friday, May 1: Remote Learning Day

Due to planned local district closures, Friday, May 1, will now be a remote learning day for all students. Students will not report to campus. Staff will participate in a remote workday.

  • Prom is not affected by this change and will still take place as planned for 11th + 12th grade.
  • Please note that the 6th grade field trip will be rescheduled. Your grade team will send a follow up email with more information.

Friday, May 22: Remote Learning Day

Friday, May 22, which was originally scheduled as a teacher workday, has been transitioned to a remote learning day for students. As originally planned, students will not report to campus on this date; however, there will now be remote learning assigned. Staff will report to campus as originally planned.

What this means (May 1 and May 22):

No In-Person Attendance: Students will not report to the school building on either day.

Asynchronous Learning: While these are remote learning days, there will be no live Zoom classes.

Assignments: Teachers will provide remote work and assignments through print copies or our standard platforms. Students are expected to complete these assignments independently. If your child is unable to complete assignments due to internet or other connection issues, they’ll have up to five days after returning to school from remote learning to complete the assignments.

We understand that schedule changes can require adjustments at home, and we thank you for your flexibility and support.

Thank you,

Charlotte Lab School
