Dear Middle School Families:
I am excited to share that Ms. Kiera Parker has accepted the role as our new Head of Middle School. She comes to Lab with clear alignment with our vision, a love for this unique age group, and five years of leadership experience at McClintock Middle School. She also has a strong passion for, and experience with, Advisory and SEL work, which we know has become increasingly important for our students. We believe that her unique skills and set of experiences will provide the stability and consistency we need in order to improve teaching and learning and to build a positive school culture.
I am so grateful for the support and grace that you all have extended to me this year. I know it has been a challenging year in so many ways and I appreciate your support. It has truly been a joy to work with middle school students and families and I will miss the day-to-day involvement next year. However, I will remain actively involved in supporting Ms. Parker for a smooth transition this summer and will still have my office nearby for lots of middle school student and class visits!
I am working with Ms. Parker to offer some meet-and-greet opportunities for families in the coming weeks, and will provide further details as they are finalized. Her first day at Lab will be Monday, June 13th so I’m excited for her to begin to get to know our staff, and work collaboratively with our team to ensure a strong start in August.
The 8th grade graduation ceremony last week reminded me how much I love our students and how amazing our staff is. Middle school educators are unique and I am so appreciative of the patience, kindness, empathy, as well as the tough love they provide to help students navigate such a challenging time in their lives. The results- seeing our 8th graders as young adults- are truly a testament to the staff and the support of our wonderful families. I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to serve you and your students this year.
I hope you can all enjoy a restful summer and I look forward to collaborating with Ms. Parker and you to fully realize the vision for Lab Middle School.
