Laura West
Laura West is thrilled to join the Charlotte Lab School community. With more than 20 years of experience in education, Laura has served as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist, curriculum developer, instructional coach, district trainer, and most recently as Head of School for a nonprofit elementary school. Throughout her career, she has remained passionate about helping students discover the joy of reading, writing, and critical thinking while creating engaging, innovative learning experiences where every child feels valued, challenged, and inspired to grow.
Laura earned her Bachelor's degree in Education with a minor in English from Columbia College and later completed her Master's degree in Teacher Leadership from Lamar University. She has developed curriculum, mentored teachers, and led professional learning while always keeping student success at the heart of her work. Her love of literacy is matched by her belief that strong relationships and curiosity are the foundation of meaningful learning.
Outside the classroom, Laura enjoys spending time with her bright and wonderful granddaughter, who proudly attends Charlotte Lab School. She also loves spoiling her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Leia. A lifelong lover of the arts, Laura enjoys music, theater, visual arts, museums, and live performances. She loves to travel and has explored much of the United States as well as France, Italy, Mexico, and the Caribbean. With a background in photography, she continues to enjoy photography and interior decorating as creative hobbies. Laura is an avid audiobook listener and is always eager to discover her next great read. As a self-proclaimed foodie and a recent transplant to Charlotte, she is excited to explore the city's incredible local restaurants and become an active part of the community. She looks forward to partnering with families to make this school year one filled with learning, creativity, and joy.
