Our high school gardening Quest, led by Michelle Wright, led the effort to replace our aging garden beds out front of the school.
In coordination and support from our partners, MeckNC (edible landscapes), UNCC Botanical Gardens, and Master Gardeners of Mecklenburg County, students in Ms. Wright's Quest helped with the breakdown of our old beds and the assembly and installation of the new beds. We had over 40 students and community partners join together on a Friday afternoon for the installation.
Complete with brand-new soil and winter-hearty plants, the Lab gardens really spruced up the front space near the playground.
Students in classes ranging from elementary to high school will use the gardens to plant, grow, harvest, sell, and explore as they incorporate them into their curriculum across grade levels.
This effort will impact all students at Lab and if you're lucky you'll get some of the fresh harvest through carpool or at a future drive-thru farmer's market!
