Career Preparation Programs

Pre-College Programs
- You can now access information about the Governor’s School summer residential program. Applications and recommendations are due to Cierra Townson by November 25.
- Middle School students can prepare to attend Health Careers Day on “The Hill” at UNC-Chapel Hill that will occur on April 4th. Individual and group registration is open now.
- For students interested in STEM, they can sign up for Let’s Get Ready to receive support in pursuing this interest as they prepare for college.

- CommonApp opened applications for the 2024-25 school year on August 1.
- Common Black College Application for the 2024-25 school year are open. You only have to pay $20 to apply to 67 HBCUs.
- NC DPI and the UNC system launched NC College Connect in September. Students with GPAs that are 2.8 or higher will receive mail about setting up their application portal. Claim your spot!
- CFNC’s Free College Application Week is October 21-27. See participating colleges.

- November 8 is the regular deadline to sign up for the ACT on December 14 and October 18 is the regular deadline to sign up for the SAT on November 2. If you believe you qualify for a test waiver, please discuss with the Upper School counselor or testing coordinator.

- Smith College - 2:15pm on October 15 in the Counselor’s Office (Zoom)
- Boston College - 10:00am on October 22 in the Commons
- October 17th - Up to 50 11th and 12th grade students are invited to travel to a College Fair in Concord, NC. It will cost $5 to travel on the bus. Interested students received their permission slips that are due back on October 15th.
- October 30th - Evening virtual financial Aid Workshop for parents. Details TBA.

COLLEGE & CAREER - August 15, 2024
Dual Enrollment
- If you are currently in 11th/12th grade (minimum 2.8 GPA) that plans to pursue dual enrollment opportunities at CPCC and have not completed the enrollment and registration process for the Fall 2024 semester, schedule a virtual 30-minute CPCC advising appointment with the Upper School Counselor.
Pre-College Programs
- UNC-Charlotte’s STEM Pre-College Program has opened registration for the Fall 2024 Saturday Academy. The program targets traditionally-minoritized populations, grades 6 through 12, with an interest in STEM. Applications are due on August 23.

Scholarships
- The Golden Door Scholarship awards up to $40,000 to DACA, TPS, and Undocumented students who are planning on attending their partner schools. Applications are due September 30.
- The Brighthouse Scholars Program offers up to $40,000 to increase opportunities for students that are underrepresented in higher education and are experiencing financial hardship. Applications are due November 1.
- The Appalachian Excellence Scholarships have an early action deadline of November 1.
- NC State’s Park Scholar program has an early action deadline of November 1.
- The Robertson Scholars program between Chapel Hill and Duke University opens for consideration on August 15 and has an early action deadline of November 15.
- Wake Forest’s Signature Scholarships (and other merit-based scholarships) have an early action deadline of November 15.
- The Cheatem-White Scholarship for a “full ride” at NCCU opens for nominations on August 15 with a deadline of November 1.
- NC A&T’s Honors College application opens August 15 with an early action deadline of November 15 for the same scholarship consideration.
- The Jack Cooke Foundation College Scholarship awards up to $55,000 to students with a 3.75 GPA and a household income of $95,000 or less. Applications open August 22 and are due November 15.
