Morning Arrival Rules:

  • Morning drop-off begins at 7:45am.
  • Parents/guardians are NOT permitted to enter the main parking lot prior to 7:45am. Parent cars entering or stopping in the lot prevent faculty from being able to park and get to their duty posts on time. Furthermore, it is disrespectful to those who are following the correct procedures.
  • Drivers are only permitted to enter the parking lot from Isom Street. Do not try to turn into the main parking lot directly from Suttle Avenue (please note, that staff members ARE allowed to turn into the lot from either direction).
  • Do NOT let Students out of vehicles along Suttle Avenue in front of our fence or driveway. This is NOT safe and it blocks the flow of traffic. If you want to walk your child up to school, you will need to find an official parking space on the street away from the school and carline flow.
  • There is NO PARKING in front of the school along Suttle Avenue.
  • There is NO DROP-OFF and NO PARKING in our neighbors’ lots (GFiber, WBTV, Mecklenburg county office, private driveways).
  • After 8:15am, parents/guardians of students in grades K-4 MUST park and walk their child into the school and sign the student(s) in. Students in grades 5-12 may enter the school on their own and sign-in themselves.

Afternoon Dismissal Rules:

Student Dismissal

  • Student Dismissal: 3:20 PM - 3:45 PM
  • Regular dismissal: do not enter the main parking lot until 3:15 PM. A staff member will direct you to enter at that time. Please do not park in the lot and wait in order to skip the line, that completely disrupts traffic and our process used through iDismiss.
  • All drivers must follow the specific lanes mapped out in the parking lot that indicate “Pick up lane” and staff instructions.
  • Vehicles must not stop or park on Suttle Avenue to pick up students in front of the gate.
  • Late Dismissal: Any student picked-up after 3:45 PM will be supervised by the after-school care provider and the parent/family will be charged by the provider at the drop-in rate.

Early Dismissal

  • Early Dismissal: Any student needing early dismissal will be signed out at the front office NO LATER THAN 2:15 PM. There will be no early dismissals after 2:15 PM. This will  be strictly enforced this year. Parents/guardians of K-4 must enter the building to check out their child and be ready to show ID.
  • Students in grades 5-12 have the option of using the EARLY DISMISSAL STUDENT PASS if a parent fills out the form before 8:15 AM on the morning of the early dismissal.

General Rules:

  • Never stop on Wilkinson Blvd. This causes a major safety hazard for drivers.
  • Do not make U-turns on Suttle Avenue.
  • Stay off your cell phones while in line.
  • Drive slowly and pay attention to children and other pedestrians.
  • If a member of Lab Staff or volunteer addresses you, please acknowledge them, follow their instructions, and don’t yell at them. They are doing their best to help make the process go more smoothly.

Continued Reminders for the 2025-2026 school year:

  • Be patient, be kind. Please.
  • Follow the rules - even if you see others who don’t. If you were not previously aware of the rules, please make note of them and follow instructions from staff working to improve this process.
  • Get Involved! Contact [email protected] if you would like to volunteer to help our staff with arrival or dismissal.

As always, thank you for your continued positive partnership with Lab, and we look forward to another wonderful school year!
