Arrival and Dismissal 2023-24

Arrival & Dismissal 2023 - 2024 School Year | Updated 9.21.23

FAMILIES: Please note the updated arrival and dismissal procedures based on our first month of school. These changes reflect feedback we have received from families and our neighbors. We ask that you review and follow these policies and procedures carefully to support positive relations with our community and the safety of all.

Student Arrival: 7:45 AM - 8:15 AM

  • Student Arrival: Late Arrival: Any student arriving after 8:15 AM will need to be signed in at the front desk. Students in grades 5-12 may sign themselves in. A parent/guardian will need to walk in any student in grade K-4.

Student Dismissal: 3:25 PM - 3:45 PM

  • Early Dismissal (updated 9/18/23): Students who need to be picked up early MUST be signed out PRIOR TO 2:30 PM. There will be no early dismissals after 2:30 PM. Additionally, anyone picking up a student early will be required to show ID or the car tag and sign the student out. Please understand that this system is required to ensure safety but also takes time. We ask families to limit early pick-ups due to the volume of students.
  • Late Pick-Up: At 3:45pm, the car and walker lines close. Students who have not been picked up are brought to the main office at 3:50 PM, where they must be picked up. Families who are late for pick-up 3 times will be contacted by the Family Advocate.

Arrival/Dismissal DO’s

Arrival/Dismissal DON'Ts

  • Respect other parents/guardians, Lab staff, and our neighbors.
  • Follow the directions of Lab staff.
  • Keep your speed low.
  • Use caution and stay aware of pedestrians, other cars, emergency vehicles, and cyclists.
  • Cross the street only when/where safe
  • Enter the parking lot ONLY after 7:45 AM. (Forming a line in the lot prevents staff from entering and leaves areas of campus unsupervised).
  • Enter the main parking lot AFTER 3:15 PM. (Forming a line in the lot creates a safety issue while students are still in the building).
  • Communicate directly with the school, [email protected],  with any concerns or recommendations.
  • Make a plan with your 5th-12th grade walker to meet you off-campus for pick-up.
  • Don’t allow your student to enter/exit your vehicle while on the street
  • Don’t leave your student unattended before staff arrive (7:45)
  • Don’t walk down the entrance ramp to pick up or drop off students (with cars exiting, this is unsafe)
  • Don’t cut the line (this includes cutting the line by entering from Suttle Avenue, or waiting in the main parking lot)
  • Don’t block driveways or streets
  • Don’t park in front of fire hydrants
  • Don’t park in the Student Lot. High School Students have the privilege of entering a lottery for a paid parking spot in the student lot.
  • Don’t park in the Main Lot during arrival (7:45-8:15) or dismissal (3:25-3:45) times;
  • Don’t park in our neighbors’ parking lots (including Dish, WSOC)

OFF CAMPUS PRIVILEGES:

During Q1 (8/28-10/31/23) Juniors and Seniors will not have unsupervised off campus privileges for Lunch or Flex time.  This decision has been made to ensure that our campus is a safe place for all learners and limiting off campus movement during the day is one measure to support this goal.  The current off campus privileges policy will remain in effect until an updated policy is formally communicated with the full community.
